Pi GAMMA CHAPTER

NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY

 

1911

On Friday, November 17, 1911, three Howard University undergraduate students, Frank Coleman, Oscar James Cooper and Edgar Amos Love, met with Professor Ernest Everett Just in his office in Science Hall (Thirkield Hall) to establish a fraternity. At this meeting, they decided upon the motto “friendship is essential to the soul” as symbolized by the letters OMEGA PSI PHI, which are the initials of the three Greek words that represent the motto.
 
 

1962

On September 30, 1962 Pi Gamma was chartered as a chapter on the campus of Norfolk State University.
 
 

PROGRAMS

During the past 59 years, Pi Gamma Chapter has carried out the four cardinal principals of the fraternity; Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. Activities have been initiated in many of the areas public schools, churches, and in the communities of Norfolk, Virginia.
 
 

THE THIRD DISTRICT

The Third District is comprised of chapters in Washington, District of Columbia and the State of Virginia. Accordingly, the birthplace of Omega is situated in the Third District
